Two Weeks Old

While I haven't been a busy blogger, I've been a VERY busy mum! As expected, my newborn takes up every minute of my day (and night). Here is just a little update...

  • Nyla sleeps ALL THEE TIME! If she isn't eating or getting a diaper change, she's asleep.
  • She is a natural nurser which makes our lives so easy! She never had a latch issue and has always fed perfectly, like a dream. We are truly lucky for this, I know.
  • By her 11th day of life, Nyla had grown from 8lbs 8oz to 9lbs 4 oz and from 19 3/4" to 21 1/4"! She is a growing girl!
  • When she goes to sleep, she keeps her eyes half open for a few minutes, rolling her eyes back into her head, making faces and smiling. It is both creepy and adorable.
  • Nyla really loves her mum the best right now. She loves to be next to me, snuggling, sleeping, nursing, etc. If she is upset, she is best calmed by me. She does love her daddy and big sister too, though. Maya helps to calm her if she gets fussy in the car, which is rare and daddy reads books to her and talks to her before bed and she loves that too!
  • Our (rather large) Olde English Bulldog loves her! He is very gentle with her, keeps his distance and seems to really know she is small and fragile compared to him. He likes to sniff her and I can tell they'll be best friends when she is able to respond better to him.
  • My cat isn't so sure about her yet but she's getting better every day. Cats are less friendly anyway...
  • Nyla has dark brown hair and big blue eyes and beautiful soft pink skin. Her ears are tiny, her feet and fingers are skinny and long and her cheeks are puffy and adorable.
  • Nyla started following my voice last week and loves to look at herself in her mirrored toys. She also likes the sound of her rattles.
  • She has more clothes than any little girl could dream of!

Here are a few pics from the past two weeks.

That last one is from this morning. Excuse my makeup-free, un-did hair, still in bed look but we were truly comfy and Nyla bear was clearly enjoying her mummy snuggles. As for me, I have lost about 20lbs since having her on July 1st. I am now 8lbs below my pre-pregnancy weight and hopefully will lose more, especially once I'm cleared to exercise again. I am feeling great for the most part but have had some really painful back aches mostly due to nursing and wearing her in her carrier. My back muscles are just not strong anymore after the weight loss and not working out for the entire pregnancy. That will be one of the first things I start to strengthen!

We're all adjusting very well to having a new baby in the house and we can't wait for our traditional family trip to Disneyland... all our family babies have their first visit very young, especially my babies. She will be almost 2 months old when we take her on August 22nd. She has an adorable Snow White dress to wear, too. I'll try to post lots of pics of that visit!
